Hey There

My name is Katie McKinstry Stylos and I'm the face behind Hyalite Designs! When I am not working on a mountain-inspired rope piece or an engaging logo design for a client you can find me climbing frozen ice in Hyalite Canyon, or hanging from tools in the Bingo Cave. Climbing and being outside is my main form of inspiration and I love being able to share that passion with you all.

All About Me

My journey began in Boise, Idaho, where I developed a passion for horse riding and eventing. At the age of 17, I pursued my dreams and relocated to Yelm, Washington, to work at the prestigious Aspen Farms Equestrian Facility. However, life took an unexpected turn when I lost my horse, leading me to discover the world of climbing at an Olympia gym. This newfound passion for the mountains and climbing quickly became the focus of my life, and I left my equestrian pursuits behind.

Traveling the world with my partner, we climbed across the country and embraced this exciting new chapter. After a year working at Urban Ascent, a local climbing gym in Boise, circumstances led me to Bozeman, Montana—one of the premier ice climbing destinations in the lower 48 states. For three years, I honed my skills at Spire Climbing and Fitness before transitioning into the role of Social Media Coordinator for the Bozeman Ice Fest, where I am presently employed.

Seeking a new sense of direction, I decided to return to university seven years after graduating from high school. Although I had always enjoyed art as a hobby, I recognized its potential for growth and sought a career that would provide the freedom to live and travel as I pleased. Consequently, I enrolled in the art department at Montana State University in Bozeman, where I earned a BFA in Graphic Design and a certificate in Small Business and Entrepreneurship. While in school, I diligently worked to establish my business, and I am now proud to be a full-time designer serving clients worldwide.

When not engaged in work or creative pursuits, I find solace in Hyalite Canyon, where my current passion for ice climbing and dry tooling flourishes. The exhilarating experience of exploring Hyalite Canyon and mastering the delicate balance of strength and technical ability in climbing continually inspires me. If I am not in the studio, chances are you will find me in the canyon, invigorating my mind and spirit.
